Had a pretty decent game session with the Friday night players last night.

As noted in this previous blog entry, the Friday night was in the process of creating their characters for the The Dark Eye RPG campaign that I plan to run, so we continued the process last night.

After the players had arrived, we chatted about the week for about 10 minutes or so and when I was read to get started again, we started off where we’d left off the week before. Suffice it to say, the players were all pretty pleased with their characters once the evening was wrapped up, and it looks like they’ve got a good group of players. Once we finished dealing with the game mechanics and wrapped up character creation, the players sat back for a bit and chatted about what they saw the character group as being like. Suffice to say, an interesting group of player characters.

*****
KathyB – KathyB Angela discussed who would play the magic user in the group, and Kathy won that bet. She created Sanya Ulfaran, a Guildless Mage native to the city of Kuslik in the Horasian Empire.

Angela – As mentioned, Angela and KathyB decided on who would be the magic user, and Kathy won this time out. After some debate on the matter, she decided to create Ernka Cornbaler, an Andergastan Lady-in-Waiting, who fled the city of Joborn after her liaison with Nostrian guard captain Mantulo of Salzerhaven was discovered.

DavidM – DavidM was fond of several concepts for a character that he had, but eventually settled on Refarde Foxhunter (“Ref” for short), a Hunter from Lowangen in Svellter, who is on a quest of some sort, and who has a positive attitude about orcs.

Ellie – Ellie decided that she wanted to play a bit of a “bad” person. After looking over the Professions, Ellie decided to play Fiana (Silversalver), a Thief from the Margravate of Griffonsford who saw her family slaughtered during an orcish attack and has now taken to the life of a travelling thief, never staying in the same place for long…until now.

Mark – Mark and Angela came up with a good concept, and he settled on Mantulo of Salzerhaven, a Guard Captain from the city of Salzerhaven in Nostria who fell in love with a Lady-in-Waiting, Ernka Cornbaler, whom he met in Joborn. The two have fled the city, and are heading for more…tolerant climes.

This session of character creation for The Dark Eye RPG went pretty well, and the players wrapped up their characters for the game. We didn’t get to any basics about the rules or some sample combats, but I was very pleased with their characters. I definitely like the Romeo and Juliet feel of the plots for Angela’s and Mark’s characters, and there’s something I can do with each of the other characters, so I’m looking forward to running the game (hopefully) next week.

Getting ready for this evening’s game session with the Friday night group.

The Friday night gamers will be continuing on with The Dark Eye RPG this evening, hopefully wrapping up character creation (that they started last Friday night) and possibly getting into some basic mechanics examples and some sample combats.

I’m looking forward to tonight’s session, but at the same time am scared silly. (Not sure why.)

In the meantime, supper is ready to be eaten. Then gaming.

Have a good night, folks.

Have spent part of the day sleeping in, and part of the day doing a bit of cleaning up around the house (in a very general fashion).

The afternoon has been spent watching a few episodes of stuff on PVR, and just letting my feet have some time off the floor and ground. I’ve also spent a bit of time reading a couple of things for The Dark Eye RPG in preparation for this evening’s session with the Friday night players.

Just got home from picking up the new car (among other things).

It has been a somewhat strenuous day.

I had to go out this morning to the blood lab for some blood tests.

This afternoon, the folks at Mazda took me in to the dealership, where I picked up my new car (see this blog post about buying the car, and a pic of what the car looks like). I’m still missing one of the pieces of info about the car, the pink slip that you need to have in the car, but other than that, the car is paid off and I’ve arranged to take it in for winter tires either next month or in early October.

I then went out and did some grocery shopping that needed to be done. Just some of the vegetable basics, and some fish for supper.

Got home, and…my poor, blistered feet are bleeding.

*sigh*

I can’t win.

It has been somewhat of a difficult day for me. My feet are hurting pretty badly, and my shoulder has been so bad that I’ve tried to use some Voltaren gel on it to ease the pain somewhat. Doesn’t seem to be helping, but that’s the story of my life.

As mentioned earlier today, the Wednesday gaming group is playing this evening, and I couldn’t be more happier. They’ll be continuing on with their game of Coriolis – The Third Horizon this evening, and I’m looking forward to running that this evening.

For now, supper awaits.

Have a good evening, folks. 🙂

Heard from Donna this morning.

(It was nice chatting with her, as we’ve not spoken for a while now, though I did see her when we board gamed right after I got back from GenCon Indy.)

The good news is that the Wednesday night players are looking forward to gaming this evening. We’ll be continuing on with the Coriolis – The Third Horizon game that the players and their characters were involved in, and they want to finish up the scenario before turning to a fantasy system for a bit.

Looking forward to this evening.

Happy Birthday, Jason Flemyng! September 25, 2017

There’s a birthday in the Primeval tv series family today.

Happy Birthday to Jason Flemyng today!

Jason is the talented actor who played Danny Quinn in Series 3 of the Primeval tv series, and who reprised the role in Series 4 a couple of times. Jason, who turns 50 years of age today, has a pretty impressive CV in movies and tv, appearing in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), Snatch (2000), Rob Roy (1995), From Hell (2001), and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003). He’s done some prominent work in both theatre and television in the UK (check out the link above). He also speaks fluent French. A lot of tv and science fiction fans remember him for his work on Primeval UK, though he’s done a lot of other work, too. One of his more memorable turns of recent years was as the villainous Vadim in The Musketeers (2014).

I can’t say that Danny Quinn was one of my favourite characters in Primeval, but I certainly warmed to him by the end of Series 3, and was sorry to see him depart. His reappearance in Series 4 came as quite a surprise, a pleasant one.

So here’s wishing Jason Flemyng a terrific birthday today!

Getting ready for an afternoon of gaming with the Sunday gaming group.

Now that SteveR and Tammy have wrapped up the scenario for Coriolis – The Third Horizon that they were playing in, it’s time to get in some fantasy roleplaying (as I’ve not run some fantasy for a while now). The Sunday players will be starting in on The Dark Eye RPG this afternoon, and will obviously begin with the character creation process. I’m quite looking forward to this, to be honest! 🙂

In the meantime, I need to hobble upstairs and get some lunch made.

Have a good afternoon, folks.

Had a lovely game session with the Friday night players last night.

The Friday night gaming group were all gung-ho and ready to get started with their The Dark Eye RPG campaign last night, and so it was time to start the character creation process with the players.

Once the (Friday) players showed up at my place around 7:00 pm or so last night, we chatted for around 10 minutes or so and caught up on the week that was. Once I felt ready, I told the gamers that it was time, and and we sat down and started creating player characters. The Dark Eye is quite a detailed game, especially the world itself, but I was somewhat concerned that the players wouldn’t be able to handle the 3d20 game mechanics. I started things off by giving the players a very brief overview of the game world of Aventuria, and they were intrigued by the more down-to-earth fantasy world that the game offered, though they thought it was full of stereotypes for the moment, but they were intrigued by the idea. Kathy even said they appreciated that we were getting back to traditional fantasy, something we had a good laugh about. Since it was important to understand the basic game rules at character creation, I went over the basic mechanics of the game, and they seemed to like the idea of the 3d20 mechanic for most things and the d20 and d6 rolls for combat. A good start. 🙂 We then talked about the basics of character generation, and I answered some of their questions (that I could), and then started the process in earnest.

The players felt they wanted to create an interesting group of characters, but didn’t want to have no ties at all to bind them somewhat. They succeeded at the basics of what they wanted, to be honest, and seem to have a good degree of variety among the characers created, with some decent sub-plot material.

KathyB – KathyB and Angela discussed who would play the magic user in the group, and Kathy won that bet. She created a Guildless Mage native to the city of Grangor in the Horasian Empire.

Angela – As mentioned, Angela and KathyB decided on who would be the magic user, and Kathy won this time out. After some debate on the matter, she decided to play an Andergastan Lady-in-Waiting, who fled the city of Joborn after her liaison with a Nostrian guard captain, Mark’s character, was discovered.

Friday night’s game session of The Dark Eye character creation went for about 4 hours or so, and saw the players get about half-way through character creation. This was due more to the players asking me questions as the process went along about aspects of the world, particularly KathyB with questions about the Guild Mages. It was a pretty fun game session, though tiring due to the mechanical aspects of the session, but the players are looking forward to completing their characters next week, Goddess willing.

All I know is that I was drained from the process, but am looking forward to next week’s session to see how things wrap up and how the characters shape out.

Getting ready for this evening’s game session with the Friday night group.

This evening the Friday night players are going to get into The Dark Eye RPG, starting with character creation. It’s a rather involved process in the game, sort of a Life Path kind of affair, but set in a world (Aventuria) that has a very detailed, long history and background to it, so I’m looking foward to how they do with this. And am totally scared to death, for some reason.

Anyway, supper is done and the dishes await before the players arrive.

Have a good night, folks.
