It’s the last day of June, 2018.

And in all honesty, I can’t wait for this month to be over.

I’m not going to go into details about everything that’s gone down in June and why I’ll be happy to see the month in the rear view mirror (all you have to do is read some of the blog entries of the past month to see what’s been going on health-wise with me), but it will be good to start looking forward to the month of July. I don’t have a lot of plans for July, to be honest, and it’s not going to start off with any gaming (as both the Friday and Sunday gaming groups will be taking the long weekend off), but to be honest, I’m looking forward to a quiet beginning to the month.

That said, Ottawa and the valley are starting a massive heatwave (which began yesterday), and today is no exception to this. The temperatures for the next week (!!) or so are in the low to mid-range 30+oC range, and with the humidity in the air it’s feeling like the 40s! Ickk! Just plan to keep as cool as I can. ‘Nuff said about that.

In the meantime, I plan to go out and buy a few groceries this afternoon, so just have to remember to make it quick. Otherwise, the perishables will melt in the heat outside. That, and stay hydrated and not take too many chances with my health this week.

MRI Results and a Rough Afternoon June 26, 2018

It has been a very long day.

I went for my doctor’s appointment at 1:15 pm, and got the results of my MRI on the left shoulder.

After waiting about 10 minutes to see the doctor, he came in and we discussed my general health (I would rate it fair to middling at this point), then got down to business. The MRI came back as normal, with the exception of some inflammation in a couple of places, but nothing that would account for the pain that I’ve experienced the last two years or so. He told me that he’s going to make an appointment with a specialist (one that’s already in the works, but could take a maximum of 18 months to get, as they’re very much in demand these days), but that in the meantime I should go back and continue my physiotherapy. So that’s what I’ll be working towards this week, but with the long weekend coming up and Canada Day and everything ahead, might not be ’til some time next week.

From the doctor’s office, I went and had some lunch at Tim Horton’s, and then went to do some grocery shopping for some veggies and a few other necessities. And, of course, wouldn’t you know it but I moved the left arm the wrong way or lifted something too heavy with it or whatever, and *SNAP!* just like that, I had excruciating pain in the left shoulder and down the arm, and my neck started hurting. I drove the car and got home from the shopping, and managed to put things away, and then lay back for a bit and took some pain killers.

Time to start thinking of supper now, though I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to stand in the kitchen and make the food. Some water to drink first before anything else, though.

A Busy Week Ahead February 26, 2018

The last few days of February are upon us, and it promises to be a busy week for me.

Tomorrow, I’ve got my annual eye doctor appointment. Being diabetic, this is an important deal for me. Promises to be a long morning at the Eye Clinic at the Ottawa General Hospital, and then visually challenging due to the dilating drops they administer before the other tests.

Wednesday is another hospital day. First off, I have to have my six-month diabetes blood tests done, and then it’s off to the General again for two ultrasounds of my ankles. The latter tests have been scheduled for almost five months, and I’ll be glad to get them over with. Just hope they don’t show anything too bad.

Friday will see me driving mom around to several appointments and possibly a bit of grocery shopping.

Suffice to say it’s going to be a long week, one where I’m going to need to rest up my feet and body a bit on the weekend. Then it’s more doctor appointments next week. Oh, joy, oh bliss! NOT!

A Death in the (Gaming) Family February 15, 2018

It has been a very difficult day for me today, as well as for the Friday night gaming group.

When I woke up this morning, I learned from Stephanie, DavidM’s wife, that DavidM had died at 3:45 am this morning of congestive heart failure as a complication/consequence of his having a very severe case of the flu that’s going around. David had been ill for over two weeks now, and had progressively got worse to the point where he’d been admitted to the hospital a week ago today. I’m saddened by his loss, and can’t even begin to imagine or feel how his wife and family are right now.

I’ve been sort of dysfunctional for most of the day, in a state of shock for the most part (I guess), and haven’t really accomplished anything at all today other than a bit of banking and grocery shopping I needed to get done.

I’d been gaming with DavidM for several years now, and had come to really like him. His personality was sparkling, he loved his wife and two children, ages 14 and 19, fiercely, and enjoyed what he did for a living. His loss leaves a terrible void in the lives of both his family and his friends, and I still can’t believe he’s gone.

A tragedy. A horrible day for all concerned.

Had another physiotherapy appointment yesterday afternoon. Only my third appointment since coming back from GenCon.

Woke up yesterday morning, and didn’t feel all that great. Lots of pain, and some dizziness. Managed to eat some scrambled eggs with veggies and cheese for breakfast, then showered, and then took care of a couple of laundry issues. Headed out for the physio clinic, “Quality Care Physiotherapy, and got there in time for my appointment, though I had problems parking the car.

The physio appointment went relatively well, though not without a lot of pain involved, and when I was finished I made two appointments for next week. I went downstairs to the small little restaurant in the building, ETC, and had a bowl of broccoli and cauliflower soup with a grilled cheese sandwich and some side greens for lunch. Yummy! 🙂

I dropped off at mom’s place and picked her up, and then took her to the local Basics store. After shopping with her, my who left side of the body was hurting again. All the physio care wasted. I took the groceries I’d picked up and went home after dropping her off at her place, and took another painkiller.

Spent a quiet evening watching the Ottawa Senators continue their losing ways with a 4-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues, and then read for about half an hour. Took care of the nightly insulin shot and then washed up and went to bed. And didn’t sleep much…again.

*sigh*

A Long (Sick) Day October 20, 2017

Yesterday was one heck of a day.

As noted in yesterday’s blog entry, I had made a doctor’s appointment since my illness has gone on too long and the coughing has gotten much worse.

The appointment was originally scheduled for 4:00 pm, but as I was eating lunch the doctor’s receptionist called, and said that I could come in any time, as the office wasn’t too busy for the day. Mom decided to come with me, since she wanted me to take her grocery shopping afterwards, so…

The doctor and I talked and then he examined me. The diagnosis was a severe case of bronchitis, since he could hear the crackling in my lungs, and so he put me on a dose of antibiotic, the Biaxin stuff, for ten (10) days and said that I should get a bit of rest, if possible. He also told me that when I was well again, I needed to come in and have both the flu shot and the pneumonia shot, as the “season” was going to be brutal for both.

From the doctor’s office, I drove over to the nearest First Choice Haircutters, and finally got a haircut. I hadn’t been for a haircut since before I left for GenCon back in August, so it had been a while and I was somewhat shaggy. When I left the salon, I felt like I might have lost 3 lbs. or so. Might have, given that the stylist cut off almost 2 inches (!!) of my hair!

From there, it was over to the local Independent Grocery, where I would take in the antibotic prescription to the pharmacy and also help mom do the grocery shopping. Suffice to say, I was there for almost 1.5 hours (as my mom’s getting up there in years, and she’s somewhat…slow), but picked up a good $60 worth of groceries for myself. I took mom back to her place, and helped her unload the groceries she’d bought, and then we went back to my place and unloaded those groceries, and made supper for her.

By the time I’d taken mom home, and then returned from the house after supper, it was close to 10:00 pm.

I was knackered. And coughing away like hell.

But life goes on, right?

Just got home from picking up the new car (among other things).

It has been a somewhat strenuous day.

I had to go out this morning to the blood lab for some blood tests.

This afternoon, the folks at Mazda took me in to the dealership, where I picked up my new car (see this blog post about buying the car, and a pic of what the car looks like). I’m still missing one of the pieces of info about the car, the pink slip that you need to have in the car, but other than that, the car is paid off and I’ve arranged to take it in for winter tires either next month or in early October.

I then went out and did some grocery shopping that needed to be done. Just some of the vegetable basics, and some fish for supper.

Got home, and…my poor, blistered feet are bleeding.

*sigh*

I can’t win.

Shopping, Buying a Car, and Boston Pizza August 11, 2017

It has been a long, stressful day in many ways. But with a good outcome.

Spent part of the morning shopping for supplies and stuff that I need for the trip down to GenCon Indy 2017 and was pretty tired when I got home for lunch. After lunch, I made my final decision as to the car that I wanted, and went over to the Mazda dealership, Dilawri Mazda, and bought my car.

She’s a 2014 Mazda GS, and her colour is Titanium Flash (fancy paint job, that!). 🙂

Since the car won’t be mine until the insurance is set up and new license plates and registration are established, from Mazda it was getting late so time for supper. Headed over to Boston Pizza once more, and ate a lovely meal of a small caesar salad and a Pizza Bella, washed down with a Heineken.

I couldn’t eat the whole pizza, so took the leftovers home with me for lunch or supper tomorrow night.

Just sitting back and relaxing now, about 10:35 pm, before I have to take my insulin shot. Then bed.

Long day, tiring, exhausting, but rewarding. 🙂
