Sad news in the entertainment industry once more today, especially for fans of the Babylon 5 tv series and movies.

Animal House Actor, Stephen Furst, Dead at 63

Actor Stephen Furst, has died of complications of diabetes. He was 63. While many knew him best as Flounder in Animal House (1978), I was better acquainted with the actor through his role as Dr. Axelrod in St. Elsewhere (1982-1988) and his role as Vir Cotto on Babylon 5, though he also had a myriad of roles in other tv shows, movies, and the like.

R.I.P. Stephen Furst. A toast to absent friends, in memory still bright. Farewell, on behalf of a grateful Centauri Republic. May you sleep in light.

I was saddened to hear the news that actor Adam West died today.

Adam West, TV’s Batman, Dies at 88

Best known for his role as Batman in the campy 1960s series, Adam West appeared in quite a few other roles and productions over the years.

Rest In Peace, Mr. West. Time to doff the old cape ‘n cowl for good this time.

Terribly sad news in the music industry. (Heard about it a couple of hours after yesterday.)

Rock ‘n roll musician and legend Chuck Berry has died. 😦

Rock ‘n Roll Legend Chuck Berry Dies at 90

Chuck Berry, Rock ‘n’ Roll Pioneer, Dead at 90

I’ve been listening to rock ‘n roll for most of my life, to be honest, and this news was both saddening and shocking to me for various reasons that I’m not going into here. Chuck Berry was one of, if not, rock’s greatest practitioners, guitarists, and the best pure rock ‘n roll writer who ever lived. He’s going to be sorely missed.

Here’s the iconic song from 1958.

*sigh*

Terribly sad news from the world of television and entertainment yesterday.

Mary Tyler Moore, Beloved TV Actress, Dies at 80

I have fond memories of Mary Tyler Moore from the 1970s in her role as Laura Petrie on The Dick Van Dyke Show in the 1960s, but she was iconic in her role as Mary Richards, a thirty-ish single woman who worked as a local news producer in Minneapolis, on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She had a good many other roles as well, but I also adored her appearance(s?) in Hot in Cleveland, where she was reunited with The Mary Tyler Moore Show co-stars Betty White and Valerie Harper.

I remember learning that she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 30, and kept up to date with her life after the MTM Show, though it was difficult at times.

Rest In Peace, Mary. You made it, after all.

Sad news out of the entertainment industry once more yesterday.

Actor Miguel Ferrer Dead at 61

Miguel (José) Ferrer was an American actor and voice actor mostly known for villainous roles, notably Bob Morton, the designer of the title character in RoboCop (1987). He also voiced the antagonistic Hun leader Shan Yu in Mulan (1998) and Big Boss in Rio 2 (2014). His other notable roles include Dr. Garret Macy on Crossing Jordan (2001-2007), NCIS Assistant Director Owen Granger on NCIS: Los Angeles (2012-2017), Vice President Rodriguez in Iron Man 3 (2013), and FBI forensic pathologist Albert Rosenfield in Twin Peaks (1990-1991, 2017).

I’ve seen quite a few of his works in television and the movies, but I absolutely loved his work in Crossing Jordan and Twin Peaks, and noticed his appearances in all sorts of other stuff that he worked on. A truly phenomenal actor, and a lovely man.

Rest In Peace, Miguel Ferrer.

You will be missed.
