‘Tis Friday, and that means it’s time for another Friday night gaming session.

Well, it would normally be a Friday night gaming session, but I’m coughing away so badly (see the earlier post today, about this) that there’s no way I can possibly game this evening. Heck, it’s hurting to breathe somewhat as well.

This means that tonight’s game session of The Dark Eye RPG is off for tonight. I was really hoping to be able to run tonight’s game session, but such is not to be.

Here’s hoping that the antibiotic that I’ve started today will allow me to run the game next week, but one day at a time.

Spoke to the Wednesday night gamers earlier, and sad news.

Gaming for this evening has been cancelled. Two of my four players are (still) down with illness (possibly the flu, but maybe just a bad cold). The two other players decided that they didn’t want to play without the missing players. That said, their GM still isn’t feeling all that good at the moment, either.

I was looking forward to gaming this evening with the Wednesday night crew, as I was thinking we might bring the Coriolis – The Third Horizon game to a conclusion for now, but I guess such is not to be once more.

I’m in the process of getting ready for gaming with the Sunday group.

I didn’t wake up until about 15 minutes ago, and that only because mom called to see how I’m doing today. I still have this nasty head cold/flu thing going on, but since my voice is relatively intact I’ve decided to game today and both SteveR and Tammy are willing (since the latter will be on-call for work again next week).

The players will hopefully wrap up their The Dark Eye RPG character creation, and we’ll see if we get to do some samples of combat and the like today.

Anyway, gotta get going and shower, and see what else I have to do in the next short while.

‘Tis Friday, and that means it’s time for another Friday night gaming session.

So, I’m getting ready for this evening’s game session with the Friday night group.

I’ve got a terrible head cold (or maybe it’s the flu), but the Friday night group decided that they are willing to take the risk, and really want to game this evening. The Friday night gamers will be continuing on with The Dark Eye RPG this evening, and will actually continue the play of their first scenario (though I didn’t get that far into it last session).

I’m looking forward to tonight’s session, though I hope the meds I’m taking for the cold/flu/whatever don’t make me overly “creative” tonight.

In the meantime, supper (of some form) needs to be made, and eaten. Then gaming.

Have a good night, folks.

It’s another Sunday morning. The Thanksgiving Sunday, to be precise.

I will not be gaming with the Sunday afternoon gamers today.

Aside from the fact that Tammy is on call this week, I’m feeling somewhat blah, to be honest, having developed a cough that comes and goes, and I’m not sleeping well due to the pain in my left shoulder. More like napping than sleeping. *sigh*

That doesn’t mean I won’t be doing any gaming stuff today, however. I need to create an NPC (who will work with the Sunday players) for The Dark Eye RPG campaign, and I think that SteveR will be coming over to go over the numbers on his Dark Eye character with me, so we’ll see how things go.

As noted elsewhere in my LiveJournal blog, I am currently running two of the gaming groups through the start of the The Dark Eye RPG campaigns. The Friday night gamers actually started their campaign last night and are having a good time of it. For those who have not seen the write-up on their characters, check out this post with the information about the Friday night gamers TDE player characters.

What follows is the first post about the Friday night The Dark Eye RPG campaign. This blog entry may be somewhat long, but even if it’s not, I’ve put it behind a cut so that folks who don’t want to read any detailed rpg posts don’t have to.

Note: If you’re in my Sunday afternoon gaming group, you might not want to read the blog journal entries about the Friday night game. **SPOILERS AHEAD!**

CHARACTERS:

Sanya Ulfaran (Kathy Bauer) – Kuslik Guildless Mage
Ernka Cornbaler (Angela Marsh) – Andergastan Lady-in-Waiting
Refarde Foxhunter (David Matchuk) – Svellter Hunter
Fiana (Silversalver) (Ellie Bauer) – Griffonsford Thief
Mantulo of Salzerhaven (Mark Williams) – Nostrian Guard Captain

Marketday 12th, Phex 1038 Fall of Bosporan (FB)

The players begin with an introduction to the world of The Dark Eye RPG (Aventuria), learn some of the basic mechanics of the game, proceed through with a basic world Glossary, and partake in several samples of combat that teach them the basic mechanics of the traditional fantasy rpg game (with a slightly different set of game mechanics). And how deadly the combat system is.

The place: The continent of Aventuria. The country of Weiden in the Middenrealm. The small town of Geres (population 200), a walled community, on the Rallian River. The time: the early spring of the year 1038 Fall of Bosporan (FB). The player characters are Sanya Ulfaran (KathyB), Ernka Cornbaler (Angela), Refarde Foxhunter (DavidM), Fiana (Ellie) and Mantulo of Salzerhaven (Mark). The world of Aventuria is one that has all sorts of tales to be told about its Heroes. And this is the start of a new group of Heroes who will make a name for themselves in this world.

The adventures begin on the forested plains of Weiden, some 50 miles from the Nine-Eye Lake. Sanya Ulfaran, a guildless mage from Kuslik in the south of the Horasian Empire, is travelling cautiously through the wooded area, ever on the lookout for orcs and other hostile creatures. This close to the Shadowlands, she knows anything is possible. Attracted by the sounds of fighting, Sanya cautiously approaches to see what’s going on. In a small copse of woods, an obvious fighter type is being attacked by three orcs. He is struggling to fight them off, even as a young woman dressed ridiculously cowers against a tree, a short sword drawn in her defense. She attempts to use her Paralysis spell on one of the orcs, and is successful, but this draws the attention of one of the other two orcs. It starts to move cautiously towards her.

Refarde (“Ref”) Foxhunter is moving cautiously through the forested region of Weiden, heading for the community of Geres in the hopes of selling some wolf furs and pelts that he has managed to obtain. Checking the ground, he spots tracks that he identifies as those of orcs. He decides to follow the coal pelts’ trail and see where it leads, arriving soon at a small clearing in some woods to see three orcs attacking a man and a woman whom he can’t identify. As one of the orcs turns to the trees after spotting something, he spots the orc’s prey – a female Mage of some kind. Leaving the pelts on the ground, he moves to intercept the orc.

Cursing herself, Fiana realises that she’s out of her depth in the forested plains of Weiden. She figures that when she gets to Geres, not if!, she’ll hired a guide to take her the rest of the way north into the Bornland. Surely they won’t pursue her all that way! She’s so engrossed in her musings that she literally stumbles over a woman hunched on the ground by a tree, a weapon of some sort drawn. As she turns, trying to get up, the woman above her hisses, “Don’t move!” and she feels the cold metal of a short sword against the back of her neck.

Friday night’s game, the first campaign session of the The Dark Eye RPG campaign went very well, and I really enjoyed myself. The players told me they had a pretty good time of it as well, and really liked the game system once they got into it and were able to get used to the dice mechanics of the game. They liked the set-up that I used for the game (a bit railroad-y, I guess), and like the way the character interactions are starting off.

In the meantime, I’m looking forward to running the next session of the game, but we’ll see how that goes down, as I seem to have caught a bit of a cold as well. Throat a bit raspy for the moment.

Getting ready for this evening’s game session with the Friday night group.

Tonight, the Friday night gamers will be starting their The Dark Eye RPG campaign. We’ll be starting with a bit more about the game world in terms of how the various characters see it, get into the basics of the rules (including combat), go through some sample combats, and if there’s enough time start off with a basic little scenario that I’ve got in mind. hehe

I’m looking forward to tonight’s session, as this is actually the start of game play. Hopefully, it won’t be too difficult and will take as little time to get to the action as possible. I suspect the players may have some problems with the basic dice mechanics to start with, but we’ll see how things shape up.

And there’s the doorbell ringing. Let the games begin. 🙂

Have a good night, folks.

Getting ready for this afternoon’s game session with the Sunday players.

The Sunday afternoon gamers will be continuing on with The Dark Eye RPG this afternoon, hopefully wrapping up character creation (that they started last Sunday) and possibly getting into some basic mechanics examples and some sample combats.

I’m looking forward to this afternoon’s session, but at the same time am somewhat intimidated and nervous. (Not sure why.)

In the meantime, lunch needs to be eaten. Then gaming.

Have a good afternoon, folks.

October Is A New Month October 1, 2017

It’s the start of October. A new month.

To be honest, I’m really happy to see the rear end of September.

While there were a few good moments in the month, September was a month that I will remember because of the pain.

The blisters on my feet are still healing, and I expected this to take a while as being diabetic, the healing process is slowed down somewhat. What I wasn’t expecting was the pain that goes along with it, and there have been days where I’ve been in absolute agony trying to walk.

Anyway, here’s hoping that October is a comfortable month, and that winter doesn’t strike too early or too hard at all. ::knock on wood::

I’ll be gaming this afternoon with the Sunday players, as they’ll continue on with character creation for The Dark Eye. In some ways, it’s a pain in the neck, but it’s a very detailed character creation system that has some fun elements to it.
