It’s Friday night, and so another game session with the Friday players.

I wasn’t sure that I’d be able to run the game tonight, given the fact that my house was left a shambles when the new fridge, dryer and washer were installed and all yesterday late in the day. Cleaning up the place and moving all the furniture and knick-knacks back wasn’t easy, and I’m in serious pain now in the neck/shoulder/arm/hand region, and I think I’ve put too much stress on the other arm. It’s hurting too.

Be that as it may, I’m getting ready for this evening’s game session with the Friday night players, and am really looking forward to it. I’m looking forward to this evening’s session of The Dark Eye RPG.

Oops, there’s the doorbell. Gotta go.

Have a good night, folks.

How I Spent My Christmas Day December 26, 2017

Yesterday was Christmas Day. Being a single fellow, with little family left in the world, and not celebrating Christmas to boot, ’twas a day where I got to spend much of it on my own. Well, actually all of it.

Suffice to say, the day passed relatively uneventfully. I was in a lot of head/neck/shoulder/arm/hand pain when I woke up, and realised it was a lost day. I managed to make a pancake breakfast (with sugar free syrup) for myself, but that didn’t help the pain that I was in, in fact making it somewhat worse.

The rest of the day was spent napping, doing a bit of (gaming) reading, watching a DVD (I can’t remember what, will have to get it off the watched shelf and see what it was… it was the Doctor Who DVD of “The Power of the Daleks”), and just trying to sit in chairs and in a comfortable position that didn’t make me want to scream in pain from the problem(s) mentioned above. Listened to a bit of music, predominantly Annie Haslam and some Renaissance, and was able to mellow out somewhat. Only heard from one person during the day, and that was Kathy. She called to find out how I was doing, to wish me a Happy holiday season, and to tell me that Ellie had loved the Christmas present I’d made sure she’d received.

I managed to struggle through making supper, and treated myself to a couple of latkes (a Hanukkah tradition) with some apple sauce for dessert. After cleaning the dishes away, I sat back and watched the Doctor Who Christmas special, “Twice Upon a Time”. What can I say about it? It was a lovely episode, a fitting end for Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, with masterful performances by both Capaldi and David Bradley (as the First Doctor), and introduced new Doctor Jodie Whitaker in a sequence that left me waiting to see what comes next. There was some stuff that I didn’t like about the episode, but I won’t get into that simply because I don’t have the energy and typing just isn’t that easy these days. I’m going to miss Peter Capaldi’s Doctor for the most part, but won’t miss Steven Moffat’s showrunning.

After the story wrapped up (1-1/2 hours, including adverts), I took my nightly insulin shot, took my evening pill and some of the Gabapentin, and had an early night of it. Once in bed, I read for about twenty minutes, and then tried to get some sleep.

The Human Need December 10, 2017

Yesterday was a strange day.

I woke up feeling relatively all right, as the term “relatively” is used about myself these days. Frankly, it meant that I didn’t scream from the pain in the hand/arm/shoulder/neck/back when I got out of bed.

I went about the morning stuff, and took it fairly easy and didn’t feel all that bad. Since I’ve had some cabin fever of late and really did feel a bit better, I decided to go out and find some companionship. (No, not that way, silly readers! I’m not up for that at the moment, to be honest. But thanks for thinking it.

I risked taking a drive (given my current health state and the medication for pain I’m taking) over to Billings Bridge Centre, as I needed to pick up a 2018 calendar and just wanted some time among the (human) herd, so to speak. So where better than a shopping centre during the Christmas season?

I went up to the food court and had some lunch, and then headed over and picked up the calendar, though not the one I was looking for, before thinking of heading home. But I was quite relaxed and enjoying my time among the human herd. So I went and sat down at a nice, comfy bench with a good cushion on it, and sat and people watched for a couple of hours, and just…absorbed all the human (inter)action around me. By the time I left the shopping mall and got home, I was feeling somewhat more human again…though I did feel very pained in the body parts that are bothering me these days.

Woke up this morning very early, due to the bad pain in the hand/arm/shoulder/neck/back areas, and while I feel I know that I’m paying for the afternoon out, I’m feeling somewhat better about myself and a bit more human again. And that’s all that counts.

In the meantime, I feel like having pancakes for my late breakfast, and that’s what I’m going to do.

Home From the Montfort (Hospital) October 30, 2017

I just got home from the Montfort Hospital about 10 minutes ago. I’m exhausted, shaking with the pain and spasms in both arms, and…tired.

I had to be at the hospital tonight around 8:45 pm, 45 minutes in advance of my MRI tests. I finally decided, given the cold, blowing, and somewhat rainy weather, to take a cab to the hospital, as I just couldn’t trust my left arm and shoulder driving, and it’s a good thing I did given that I’m in pain and suffering arm spasms since the tests were done.

I arrived by taxi at the Montfort Hospital around 8:35 pm, and had to walk on my still tender feet (remember the blisters? Not fully healed yet) almost the length of the hospital to the Registration area and then to the Imaging labs. After registering and filling in a questionnaire that is mandatory before MRIs, I had a devil of a time changing out of my clothes into a hospital gown because of my left shoulder and arm difficulties. I then was helped by the technician and her aide onto the flatbed of the MRI machine.

I’ve had an MRI before this, I believe twice, so I thought I was prepared for the process again, but I was wrong. Thank Goddess I’m not too claustrophobic, though, or perhaps it’s just that the MRI tube doesn’t induce that in me. In any event, I was having a cervical spinal set of MRI tests done, and so my head was completely inside the tube. Even with the sound deadening headphones and the music of CHEZ 106 playing, it was deafening in there, with the pops, wheezing, thumping, rattling, and other sounds of the MRI device during the 20-25 minutes scan. Don’t remember it being so noisy the last couple of times. I should hear back on the MRI test results within the next week to two weeks or so.

By the time, I came out of the scanner, my left shoulder was stabbingly painful, my muscles in the lower arms were throbbing and spasming, the left shoulder feeling like every nerve was on fire. It also generates some heat, and I was soaked with sweat (a condition that I was told for this procedure was normal), but I was somewhat dizzy as well. I had to rest in the waiting room for about 15 minutes, and then proceeded back to the main hospital lobby area and ordered a cab home.

Once I got home, I was barely able to take my insulin shot successfully, and had a hot cup of chamomile tea. I collapsed into my den chair, and I’ve been scribing this WordPress entry. As soon as this is done, folks, I’m off to bed. I need to take a couple of Tylenols before I hit the bed, methinks.

Night, all.

Today promises to be a very long day.

I did not sleep well last night. Between the bouts of coughing that I had in the late evening and that led to some bad diarrhea, as well as the sheer agonypain that my left shoulder/arm/neck/back are currently suffering, sleep did not come easy and when it did come, tossing and turning were the best that I managed to have.

To make the day even longer for this Monday, I have my appointment at the Montfort Hospital this evening for an MRI at 9:30 pm. Not sure how I’m going to get there yet, since my left arm and shoulder are so bad that I can’t use the arm for much of anything these days.

Ah, well… one step during the day at a time.

Getting ready for an afternoon of gaming with the Sunday gaming group.

My feet are bothering me pretty badly, a lot of pain in the left foot where the blisters haven’t broken (but I feel like I’m walking on a small pocket of fluid or whatever), and my left shoulder is bothering me a lot. Here’s hoping the gaming will distract me from the pain that’s going on and focus on something else (i.e., the gaming).

The Sunday gamers and I will be wrapping up the Coriolis – The Third Horizon RPG scenario that they’re doing for the moment, and if time permits we’re going to start in on stuff for the The Dark Eye campaign that I’m planning to run, though probably won’t get to character creation until next weekend.

Meanwhile, it’s time to head into the shower, and then hobble upstairs to make some lunch.

Have a good afternoon, folks.

Awake.

Too damn early to get up.

Well, my suitcase and carry-on luggage are mostly packed, other than putting the cold pack with the insulin in and the last of the toiletries, everything is pretty much ready to go. Heading out to GenCon 2017 this morning, around 10:00 am, but need to be at the airport by no later than 8:00 am.

Didn’t sleep all that well last night, tossing and turning somewhat, having left foot nerve spasms again, not to mention my bad shoulder is hurting quite a bit. Going to have to remember to avoid lifting anything at all with the arm, suitcases and all.

Other than that, time to get functional for the day. Shower and shave first, I think.

Monday morning. The day before I leave for GenCon Indy.

Must have slept on the bad shoulder last night, as I’m in pretty bad pain this morning. Need to take a couple of pills now, and hope they mute the pain somewhat.

Not going to be able to get much rest today, as I’ve got two doctor appointments today, and have to do a bit of shopping for some of my medication related stuff (noticeably the insulin and the needles) and a couple of other sundries. I’ve also got to finish the packing for GenCon 2017

So this promises to be a busy day once more. I would have liked to have taken it easy and rested up a bit today, but such is not to be the case.

Shopping, Buying a Car, and Boston Pizza August 11, 2017

It has been a long, stressful day in many ways. But with a good outcome.

Spent part of the morning shopping for supplies and stuff that I need for the trip down to GenCon Indy 2017 and was pretty tired when I got home for lunch. After lunch, I made my final decision as to the car that I wanted, and went over to the Mazda dealership, Dilawri Mazda, and bought my car.

She’s a 2014 Mazda GS, and her colour is Titanium Flash (fancy paint job, that!). 🙂

Since the car won’t be mine until the insurance is set up and new license plates and registration are established, from Mazda it was getting late so time for supper. Headed over to Boston Pizza once more, and ate a lovely meal of a small caesar salad and a Pizza Bella, washed down with a Heineken.

I couldn’t eat the whole pizza, so took the leftovers home with me for lunch or supper tomorrow night.

Just sitting back and relaxing now, about 10:35 pm, before I have to take my insulin shot. Then bed.

Long day, tiring, exhausting, but rewarding. 🙂

An Exhausting Day (Cars, Haircut and Food) August 10, 2017

Another day that was exhausting yesterday. Another night of very little sleep. *sigh*

Had a decent night’s sleep on Tuesday night, but woke up with stabbing pain in the arm and shoulder that I’m having trouble with. Not an auspicious start to the day. Tried to do a round of physio exercises, but had almost no mobility and my shoulder and upper back area were in too much pain to do a couple of the exercises.

Made some breakfast and then checked e-mail and the like. Nothing of importance there, and no one’s beating down my door to meet up with me at GenCon Indy. Took as hot a shower as I could, and that helped somewhat with my shoulder though not as much as I would have liked.

Another round of car shopping ensued for a couple of hours. The morning saw me going to Kia to check their cars out, but I didn’t see anything I really liked and I wasn’t enamoured of the test drive of a second-had Forte.

From there, it was off to my Footcare appointment. Things went better than I expected, and my feet felt much better afterwards. Lunch in the building consisted of some hamburger and veggie soup with a grilled cheese sandwich. Satisfying. After lunch it was over to First Choice Haircutters to get my haircut, though by then it was around 2:30 pm and I hoped I wouldn’t have to wait too long for the haircut, as I needed to get in some more car shopping during the late afternoon. I needn’t have worried, as the haircut place was pretty empty and got taken right away by my favourite hairstylist. I’d left it almost two months, quite late, as I’d wanted to get the hair cut right before GenCon, and the hairstylist cut off some 1-1/2 inches of hair. Felt several pounds lighter after the haircut. 🙂

From there, it was back to car shopping. Went to Subaru and Ford, but didn’t find anything affordable, and didn’t like the test drive I did of a Honda something-or-other (not a Civic, since there were none available second-hand at the dealer with the parameters I had in mind). Then stopped at Mitsubishi and ended up with a rookie salesman (he’d only been there for three months) and just about walked out with his lack of knowledge and pushy salesmanship. They had some good second hand cars, but Mitsubishi is also having a sale, and I took a look at a new Mirage once I got a veteran salesperson. The Mirage handled like a dream, and I may go back there again today (Thursday) to see it again.

By this time, it was quite late. Had to go home and relax for a bit, as my shoulder and arm were hurting pretty bad. Mom and my sister went to do a bit of shopping, and then picked me up around 7:30 pm or so, and we went and had a very late supper at Swiss Chalet. A side salad, roast beef and mashed potatoes with mixed vegetables. Didn’t eat the whole meal, as it was getting really late. And then it happened. As we were getting out of the booth, mom cracked my left ankle with her cane.

Suffice it to say, I wasn’t walking well when we came out of Swiss Chalet, and after they dropped me off at the house, I saw that my left ankle had a laceration from the cane and a deep, red indentation from where it hit me. I put my foot up, put an ice pack on it, and took it easy for the rest of the night.

Not a lot of sleep, as I tossed and turned last night due to the shoulder pain and some throbbing from the left ankle. Woke up way too early (if I slept at all), and have been ambling around for a while. Decided to post this blog entry.

Anyway, another physiotherapy session this afternoon, more car shopping, and preparations to make for GenCon. Going to be another exhausting day. Feel like a chicken without a head, and just running around.

*sigh*
