Day 31 – What do you anticipate most for gaming in 2018?

I can’t say there are any rpgs that I anticipate coming out in 2018, though I am looking forward to the upcoming The Trudvang Chronicles and supplements for the Torg Eternity and Coriolis – The Third Horizon rpgs.

That said, I would like to be able to run a decent length campaign of one rpg in 2018, preferably science fiction and/or fantasy as well as some good (and memorable) gaming experiences. I’m looking forward to convention gaming at CanGames 2018 and perhaps one other gaming convention. And I would dearly love to play in a couple of rpg campaigns as well, since I find running games every week to be somewhat exhausting and creativity draining at times.

And that’s it for this year’s #RPGaDAY in August! That was fun, illuminating, but also somewhat exhausting! See you in 2018 for the next incarnation of the project! 🙂

Day 30 – What is an RPG genre-mash-up you would most like to see?

To be honest, I can’t answer this question. There might be a genre mash-up that I would like to see, but I probably wouldn’t know what it is until I saw it mentioned or the game came out. 🙂

Day 29 – What has been the best-run Kickstarter you have backed?

The three best-run Kickstarters that I have backed to this point have been the Atlantis: The Second Age, Coriolis – The Third Horizon, and Torg Eternity RPG Kickstarters. All for pretty much the same reasons: They have not forgotten which product the Kickstarter is focused on and they have communicated with the backers very well.

‘Nuff said.

Day 28 – What film/series is the biggest source of quotes in your group?

Egads. This one is tough because I have three gaming groups.

That said, I think that The Musketeers, Babylon 5, the Star Wars films, and classic novels and book series make up the majority of quote sources for my gaming groups.

Day 27 – What are your essential tools for good gaming?

As far as I’m concerned, the essential tools for good gaming are the game system rulebook, the adventure that one is running, and some paper, pencils/pens, and dice. The last are optional, as not all systems use dice, but for those that do, they are essential. Finally, the last essential tool is a good understanding of the game system that one is running, and having a good feel for the adventure that one is running since the adventure will never go as the GM expects.

Day 26 – Which RPG provides the most useful resources?

I’m not really sure what the question here means, but…

I think that most of the rpgs that come out these days have useful resources in them, but to be honest, my experience with rpgs these days is somewhat limited (as I’ve mentioned in a few other posts in this #RPGaDAY month). That said, any rpg that has an active community also has good resources.

Day 25 – What is the best way to thank your GM?

This one might seem like a no-brainer, but honesty, the best way to thank your GM is, at the end of the game session, just say “Thank you for running this game session” or some such, or even give the GM a positive comment about the game session just run.

That said, while thanks and praise are nice, I also accept diabetes-friendly food (snacks or otherwise). I suspect that if I said I wanted money, it would call into question my status as a hobbyist and amateur! 🙂

Day 24 – Share a PWYW publisher who should be charging more.

This is one question that I cannot, in all honesty, answer. I don’t know enough about PWYW publishers or what they offer out there, and so will not answer this one. (But I will check a few of these publishers out and see what I do find out there.)

Day 23 – Which RPG has the most jaw-dropping layout?

This one’s a bit tough for me, since I don’t buy a heck of a lot of rpgs, to be honest. That said, I don’t think there is any rpg with a jaw-dropping layout as most rpg layout jobs could use a bit of improvement. However, the layout of the Coriolis – The Third Horizon RPG rulebook is tremendous, though there’s some stuff that I would have done differently.

Day 22 – Which RPGs are the easiest to run for you?

I’m actually not sure what this question means in terms of context, but I will say that the easiest rpgs for me to run are those that have a) an interesting world that I can understand intuitively; and b) a set of game mechanics that are relatively easy to work with and don’t require heavy lifting and loading.

In recent years, this would include the Primeval RPG and the current Coriolis – The Third Horizon and Tales From the Loop RPGs, as well as the forthcoming Torg Eternity RPG.
