Back from the hospital again today. Or should I say two hospitals.

Started the day off with terrible diarrhea which postponed my morning trip to the Riverside Hospital for my blood tests. By the time I got to the hospital, the blood lab was packed to overflowing and I was told that I’d have a wait of at least an hour. Seeing as how I had to fast for the blood tests, I figured I’d stay and get them out of the way. Found a place to sit down, and focused on things other than food, since I was pretty hungry by then since I’d not eaten since around 10:30 pm the night before. Had a bit of water, as a few people snickered at the grumbling from my tummy. The blood tests were pretty painless, as the RN was pretty good at taking the blood, and there was no bruise. Seven vials of blood, and two little containers of urine. Good thing they had still let me have water, otherwise…

After the bloodwork had been taken, I hopped into the car and headed over to the Ottawa General and my appointment there. I figured I would go eat some breakfast or lunch or whatever, but decided to check in first at the ultrasound lab. Good thing I did, as I was told the test would be better taken without food consumption because of the relaxant/dye they were going to administer. Stuck around the lab until 1:00 pm, and then had the tests done. Took about 20 minutes. I’ve come to realize that I hate ultrasounds. It’s all that pressing with the hand-held on the places that hurt. Ouchie! Should hear back on these results in two to three weeks.

Once the tests were finished, I took about 15 minutes to recover, and then headed out to find some breakfast. Looking at the clock, I realized it was actually time for some brunch. I headed over to the same place where I’d gone for breakfast the day before, and had a lovely, relaxed meal. My feet and ankles were still hurting from the tests, so I drove home at a leisurely pace.

At home, I had a cup of tea with half an apple, and then settled in for a bit of editing. Took a nap after that, and am now spending a bit more time on the computer.

The last few days of February are upon us, and it promises to be a busy week for me.

Tomorrow, I’ve got my annual eye doctor appointment. Being diabetic, this is an important deal for me. Promises to be a long morning at the Eye Clinic at the Ottawa General Hospital, and then visually challenging due to the dilating drops they administer before the other tests.

Wednesday is another hospital day. First off, I have to have my six-month diabetes blood tests done, and then it’s off to the General again for two ultrasounds of my ankles. The latter tests have been scheduled for almost five months, and I’ll be glad to get them over with. Just hope they don’t show anything too bad.

Friday will see me driving mom around to several appointments and possibly a bit of grocery shopping.

Suffice to say it’s going to be a long week, one where I’m going to need to rest up my feet and body a bit on the weekend. Then it’s more doctor appointments next week. Oh, joy, oh bliss! NOT!

Results of the Ultrasound Tests July 12, 2017

I had my doctor appointment yesterday to find out what the results of the x-ray and shoulder ultrasounds showed.

The appointment was for 2:15 pm, but I didn’t get in to see the doctor until close to 2:50 pm so it was a relatively long wait in the office. Once inside, the nurse weighed me. I was pleased to see that I hadn’t gained any weight, but I hadn’t lost any weight either.

Suffice to say, the test results were all negative. As far as he could tell, there’s nothing wrong with my shoulder, but he can see the pain’s real and that I have little movement in it, and there’s a good amount of swelling around it. Since it could be something to do with vertebral discs, he’s going to set up an MRI of my upper spine and the area, and see what that shows. In the meantime, he suggested (very strongly) that I go have some physiotherapy on the shoulder to try and get some of the mobility back and strength built up there.

Should be fun. NOT.

In the meantime, I’m in a lot of pain there. And it’s affecting the use of my arm quite badly at the moment.

Haven’t posted in a couple of days.

Nothing really new to report. My health is pretty sad at the moment, in terms of my left shoulder; the pain is getting worse, every day, and I don’t have a good feeling about what’s going to happen at the doctor’s next Tuesday when I finally get the report on the ultrasound that was done a week (or is it two now?) ago. On top of that, if the doctor has to refer me to a shoulder specialist (orthopedist, I think?) it might take a month
or longer to get an appointment. Meanwhile, the shoulder is just going from bad to worse.

As for today, well…the fourth official day of my retirement from work. Doesn’t seem to make a difference to my overall mindset, but we’ll see how I feel after today’s appointment. Yes, I have an appointment this afternoon at Ottawa Respiratory Services; the doctor must have thought there was something to book me an appointment there.

I need to be there in the next hour and a half, so time to head out the door. Then find somewhere to eat lunch after the tests are done.

I have just got home from the lab where I had the ultrasound tests done.

Suffice it to say, I’m not doing well at the moment, can barely move my left arm and shoulder, and the pain is…very bad.

The tests lasted for just under twenty minutes, but I actually passed out from the pain during the movement of the shoulder at one point for around 30 seconds.

Anyway, I’m home now, alternating ice and heat on my shoulder, and have taken some pain medication and will lie down for about an hour now.

OUCHIE!!!

Scared About Today June 26, 2017

It’s been a very long day, and I’m pretty scared about something.

I have an appointment at one of the labs attached to the hospital early this afternoon to have the ultrasound done on my left shoulder.

The problem is that I am in absolute pain (think 12 on a scale of 1 to 10) every time I move the shoulder, and the fact of the matter is that I want to scream in pain when I touch the shoulder. This should go really well when he presses the ultrasound device onto the shoulder area, right?

Oh, Gods…

Anyway, time to leave work and head over to the clinic. Wish me luck.

Yesterday’s Doctor Appointment, and Results June 7, 2017

Had my two weeks’ doctor’s appointment yesterday.

What a mess.

The appointment was scheduled for 2:15 pm, but because “we’ve had a busy day today” (according to the receptionist), I didn’t see the doctor until 3:35 pm! *sigh*

In any event, there was good news and bad news on various subjects.

Good news: The x-rays of my chest came back. They show my lungs were/are clear, so I’ve not got an infection there of any kind.

Bad news: The x-rays of my left shoulder have not come back yet. So as the pain gets worse, and is starting to affect my left arm and hand and fingers… Meh.

As for the rest of it, well… Since I’ve not got an infection, per sé, that leaves mould and the like at the house (which is not present, far as I know) or my allergies. The latter are more likely, since apparently it’s a bad allergy season and lots of people are having a hard time with it. He prescribed an inhaler for me, Symbicort, for me, since I do have a history with asthma as well, and told me to take over the counter meds for any other aspects of the “infection” as I need them.

Insofar as the left shoulder is concerned, the doctor won’t prescribe any form of treatment until he’s seen at least the x-rays, but preferably the ultrasound that he’s asked for. Since there hasn’t even been a call about setting up the ultrasound yet, I’m not optimistic. The fact of the matter is that the shoulder pain is getting worse every day, I’ve got almost no mobility with it, and there are problems setting in with my muscles, as well as the use of my hand, arms, and fingers. Not good.

Oh, and I still can’t talk for the most part. He did say that my voice should come back as I heal, and it might take up to six weeks. He also said to be careful and not talk if I can avoid it for a while, as I may damage the vocal chords due to the swelling that’s present in that area. Just great.

In the meantime, I have another appointment in two weeks. *sigh*

Doctor Appointment and Hospital Tests May 23, 2017

Just got home from seeing the doctor (a scheduled appointment) and then going to the hospital for some x-rays.

The news is not good.

Due to the allergies and the asthma attack that I’ve been suffering from, I’ve injured my larynx because of the talking and the coughing (mostly the latter). Probably didn’t help it at all by going to CanGames 2017 this past weekend. *sigh* In addition, my throat is partially swollen shut because of the allergies and possibly made worse by the asthma attack that is persisting.

In addition, there is a serious problem with my left shoulder, made worse by my having forgotten not to use my left arm when I threw a small, plastic footstool in a fit of anger last night. 😦

The doctor sent me for x-rays of both the shoulder and my chest, and I also am waiting to hear on an appointment for an ultrasound of my shoulder (and it may be followed up with some other tests as well). He thinks I’ve got an infection in the chest now as well (bets are on con crud…anybody?). In the meantime, he prescribed for me an antibiotic and a strong anti-inflammatory. And I am not to talk for several days.

This should be fun.

And I’m just going to try and rest for the rest of the day and into the evening.
